BRAVE
GHOST HUNTERS WANTED
The Anthony Nolan Trust is looking for ghost-hunters
to spend the night in the
very haunted Wirral Museum in Birkenhead
Town Hall.
The event will take place on
Saturday 4th October from 7pm to 1am
It promises to be a real treat for anyone interested
in the paranormal.
There will be a guided tour of the museum
detailing real-life experiences and
historical information followed
by a ghost-hunting workshop with an experienced
team of paranormal
investigators, psychic experiments, medium ship and séances.
Wirral Museum, in the magnificent Birkenhead Town
Hall, appeared on
Most Haunted Live” back in December 2005 and is
said to be home to
many hauntings. Museum workers report seeing the
apparition of a man pass
through the main reception. In the
ballroom, which used to hold local celebrations,
the sounds of a
party, including clinking glasses and piano playing
can be heard
late at night.
Participants will be asked to raise sponsorship of at
least £125 to help take back lives from leukaemia.
Right now, the Charity is urging more young men to
join its bone marrow register.
Only 11% of its register currently
consists of young men aged between 18 and 35.
However, 75% of those
who go on to donate and save lives are men.
The Anthony Nolan Trust is an independent charity and
relies on financial support
from individuals and companies to fund
its work. It costs the Charity £125 to
tissue-type each new donor to
its register.
For an entry form
please text “FUN Wirral” and your name and address
to 60003,
download it from www.anthonynolan.org.uk or call 0151 428 3992.
The joys of outdoor reading
Woodchurch library is basking in the great outdoors
this summer by launching Wirral’s first reading garden.
The garden is one of a series of projects launched
during National Year of Reading designed to inspire and encourage
outdoor reading within local communities around the country.
The Woodchurch garden is situated at the front of the
library on Ganneys Meadow Road and was designed by local residents
together with library staff, LA21, Woodchurch Neighbourhood
Management and local business, Star Designs.
Fittingly entitled The Storytellers’ Garden, there
are ample places for people to sit and read in the fresh air
surrounded by plants, herbs and reading-related decorations. There
is also a special storyteller’s chair adjacent to the entrance to
the Ganney Meadows Early Years’ Centre which is designed for someone
to sit and read to groups of young people.
Librarian Gwen Wale said: “We decided to call it the
Storytellers’ Garden because it is open to everyone in the community
– and everyone is a storyteller.
“We’ve only been open a couple of weeks but it is
already proving very popular and is encouraging more people to read
– when the weather permits, anyway!”
Cllr. Bob Moon, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for
Culture, Tourism and Leisure, added: “Green or open spaces are
important to communities - they can transform individual people’s
lives. They can provide a welcome to respite from everyday life and
are known to promote health and well-being.
“Reading gardens like the one at Woodchurch publicly
celebrate the importance and pleasure of reading, and the joys of
reading outdoors and I hope it is just the first of many in Wirral.”
